Percentage of farmers in labor force: 2/3 population/ 66%
Farming Types
Subsistence agriculture takes up a large portion of of the agriculture, with four million families surviving on subsistence agriculture. However, commercial agriculture takes up a large deal of agriculture, with many cash crops, such as coffee, rubber, palm oil, cocoa, and tea, being grown by about three hundred thousand farmers.
Impact & Future
The Green Revolution has had a negative impact on the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It has led to a large portion of the nation's agriculture to begin to be converted to commercial agriculture when even basic crop needs to support the internal population aren't being met. The DR Congo's agricultural future seems to benefit foreign powers but degrade the country itself.
Current Events Article
SummaryThis article discusses how the Paris Climate Agreement could displace 1.3 million indigenous people, with 1 million being inside the DR Congo. These people live inside forests, which are to be set aside as national parks to help combat carbon emissions. However, many experts believe that this action would cause more harm than good to the indigenous people.

ConnectionDeforestation is one way to create more land for agricultural uses. By conserving forests, this land could be used to create places for people to visit and to reduce carbon in the world's atmosphere. However, by forcing indigenous peoples out, it almost seems better to convert the land into agricultural land so as to give the people at least a place to work instead of just a taste at the land they once lived in.
